Capacity-building
Accelerating progress through local expertise
The United Nations defines capacity-building as “the process of developing and strengthening the skills, instincts, abilities, processes, and resources that organizations and communities need to survive, adapt, and thrive in a fast-changing world.” Agraya’s capacity-building activities put this approach into action by raising awareness of responsible farming practices and supporting their implementation on the ground.
The agribusiness sector provides vital employment in both rural and urban areas of many countries. Whether working with smallholders or large cooperatives, Agraya recognizes that everyone has a role to play in advancing safe and responsible agriculture.
Through targeted capacity-building activities conducted in collaboration with our global network, we provide professional guidance on primary production certification and assist producers in achieving it. This helps promote food safety and contributes to safeguarding both our environment and the well-being of farming communities.
Our capacity-building principles
Adopting safer and more responsible farming practices is only possible if producers have the tools they need to succeed – including access to training and support. Agraya’s capacity-building activities aim to contribute to the transformation of farming practices by:
- Raising awareness of good agricultural practices (GAP) and collaborating with stakeholders
- Providing training and facilitating access to certification through entry-level assurance
- Establishing partnership networks and upskilling local, regional, and national expertise

At some point I stopped considering GLOBALG.A.P. as a set of standards or a control institution. Now I am completely confident that it’s a philosophy – a philosophy of modern farming and a handbook for every farmer or owner of an agricultural business.
