Arctic Sea Farm, a subsidiary of Icelandic salmon producer Arctic Fish, has become the first salmon farm in Iceland to achieve GLOBALG.A.P. certification, marking a milestone for the country’s aquaculture sector.
Operating salmon farming sites in Iceland’s Westfjords, Arctic Sea Farm achieved certification against the GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA for aquaculture standard. The certification provides independent assurance that its farming operations meet internationally recognized requirements for responsible aquaculture production.
Strengthening assurance in Icelandic salmon farming
Commenting on the achievement, Remko Oosterveld, Business Development Manager Aquaculture at Agraya, highlighted: “Achieving GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance certification means demonstrating year after year that requirements in the areas of food safety, fish protection, environmental management, and worker welfare are met according to a consistent, independently audited standard.”
For Arctic Sea Farm, the certification provides customers and supply chain partners with greater transparency around how its salmon is produced and supports the company in meeting the expectations of international seafood markets.
