Capacity building projects to support GLOBALG.A.P. certification in Ecuador and Columbia

2 min read

As part of ongoing capacity building efforts, we are partnering with the Import Promotion Desk to train representatives from local organizations in Ecuador and Colombia. The initiative supports these organizations in helping producers implement good agricultural practices and obtain GLOBALG.A.P. certification, thereby strengthening their access to international markets.

What are capacity building projects?

Capacity building activities aim to raise awareness of responsible farming practices and facilitate their implementation on the ground through the transfer or strengthening of skills, knowledge, and resources. In partnership with organizations around the world, including our community members, we participate in goal-oriented projects that create a tangible impact on the local agricultural sector.

Why are capacity building projects important?

Agriculture and agribusiness provide essential employment opportunities in both rural and urban areas across many countries. Strengthening these sectors supports improved livelihood, enhances food security, and contributes to sustainable economic development.

Supporting local institutions in Ecuador and Colombia

The project focuses on strengthening institutions that play a key role in supporting producers on their certification journeys. By training representatives from different organizations, the initiative helps build long-term local expertise aligned with GLOBALG.A.P. requirements.

In Ecuador, participants include representatives from PRO ECUADOR, CORPEI, and the private company Green Line. In Colombia, participants include representatives from Analdex, ANDI, and the Cámara de Comercio de Bogotá.

Key activities include:

  • Delivering training on GLOBALG.A.P. principles and solutions
  • Providing training on the Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) standard
  • Training participants on quality management systems and internal auditing
  • Offering tailored mentorship programs

Capacity building initiatives like this one demonstrate how collaboration between international organizations and local partners can generate meaningful, lasting improvements across agricultural value chains.
